Fair, Brown, and Trembling: The Whale
Ink on Paper
11'' x 14''
2019

This is the Irish equivalent of Cinderella. Trembling's sisters are jealous of her beauty and a henwife uses magic to make three different gowns for Trembling to ride to church wearing. After wearing the third gown, the prince grabs Trembling's foot as she leaves, removing her shoe. She marries the prince and has two children. One day her jealous sister pushes Trembling off a cliff and a whale swallows her. The whale spits out Trembling at high tide and a boy sees this happen. She tells the boy to fetch her prince and tell him to shoot the whale with a silver bullet. She replays the boy with her daughter's hand in marriage.
