My current work explores combining Celtic folklore with figural representation. Because of my Irish heritage, I am interested in exploring the origin stories of legendary creatures like the Merrow and Banshee. I love the ability of these tales to explain the behavior and thoughts of people and creatures alike. This interest also crosses into the Welsh religion, later called Paganism, and The Goddesses of Avalon.
This folklore has been explored for millennia, and I add to its history with contemporary poses and abstractions of the figure, drawing attention away from the form itself and onto the contextual subject matter. I use my own illustrative style to place these legends on paper, employing the medias of charcoal, watercolor, micron pen, and oil paint.
